That's a great pickerel, especially given the intense fishing pressure that lake receives in the summer.

I wonder if they'll let me launch a kayak in that lake. (After the ice melts, of course.)

Here is something interesting. It's a Pennsylvania size vs. age chart for pickerel and pike, so you can estimate how old your catch is:

Cool chart but I wouldn't rely on it. Fish grow at different rates depending on what lake they're in and genetics. When I was working for the DEP in Connecticut we aged a 40" pike my buddy caught at it was 6 years old. They're just like people, they come in all shapes and sizes. Usually the real tanks grow quick and don't live as long.

I don't know that I believe the chart. It seems to say that Chain Pickerel don't get any bigger than about 20 inches. I'm 71 years old, and I know that I've caught many pickerel over 20 inches...especially down in the south jersey pine barrens streams and cranbury bogs.

However, about 15 years ago my best was in Davidson's Mill Pond in South Brunswick which was right on the 30 inch mark. ( Yes-It was released.) I'm fairly certain it was a pickerel, since I don't think there are any Northerns in Davidson's Mill Pond.

It's possible thata pike could come from Farrington as Davidson's Mill Pond is right down the 'stream' from Farrington.
