Sr 10/31

Fished my favorite reservoir with my buddy tom (Driverrat)for about 4 hrs this afternoon, we were trying to see if we could figure a pattern for som Hybrids. Well that didn't happen but I did pick up my PB cat and learn a little about big catfish and got a good laugh. I don't have a lot of experience with big cats, so after I netted this 24" 4 or 5lb cat i ask Tom if it's OK to lip a cat and he said yea they don't have teeth and will just clamp down a little. So I stuck my thumb in his mouth, picked him up and popped the hook out of the corner of his mouth. To say thank you he clamped down like a vice, spun around on my thumb and drew blood with 36 grit jaws that don't have teeth. I stuck my other hand in his mouth and preyed him off my thumb with a few choice words for the fish and tom, who was having a gut busting laugh, took a pix and threw him back. That the last time I put my finger in a big cats mouth and I'll be careful about what tom tells me. Thanks bud:eek:

Nice catfish Phil! No skunks and no spruce goose is a good day. HAHAHAHAHAHA, Tom got you good this time! You can put your hand in a big cats mouth, no problem until they rip the skin off! HAHA!!!

If you all could've seen the look on Phil's face.......... PRICELESS!

Dangers of Noodling.
Catfish are very strong, especially when they're fighting for their lives, and they can easily pull a person underwater. Many an old-timer has a story about someone who died because he couldn't get his hand loose from the catfish's jaw and was dragged to the bottom of the river.
Once a catfish latches onto your hand, it's likely to spin around, ripping up your skin with its sandpaper-like teeth. Some noodlers wear gloves to protect themselves.

Nice catfish Flatcreek.

Fish & Game does a really good job of keeping Spruce Run stocked with Catfish. I didn't get skunked all summer. Even when I wasn't fishing for catfish, I still caught catfish.

That's an impressive stocking effort considering the amount of shoreline fishing and boat fishing that reservoir receives. I don't think Van Sickle pier was unoccupied at any point from April to the end of September when they drew the water level down.

My PB Channel Cat for this year was a 21" that I released because I don't like the fillets to be thicker than 1".

The lake I have been catfishing in seems to only be good at night --would love to be able to catch some in the daylight--I have tried the afternoon into evening and later -but it doesn't pick up until dark with 6:30 to 8:30 the best times so far-have stayed out till 11:00 without much to show for it--are any times during the day better than others or is it hit or miss--any tips or help appreciated--thanks
