stripes on the raritan

Im sure no one cares but I need to vent.

Went to the might raritan in search of the bronze backs. With that said i had my ultra light. Went to a spot that normally produces and first cast a monster hit and peels a good 20 yds of drag then jumps. Hooked into a bass with stripes and it was a true monster. Me and my 8lb test fought him up and down the river, almost spooled me and i panic and put to much muscle on him and snapped the line.

Fu@k me i guess but all im saying is there are some real beasts right now in the river,i know ill be there even more now. Also this was not at the ladder.

fish was in the upper teens weight wise, i was with a friend and im glad he was there not sure if anyone would have believed me otherwise.

Damn, Larry, that sucks! People always look at me funny for fishing with heavy tackle all the time, but you never know. Keep at it, you'll get your rematch!

Also this was not at the ladder. ;)

Good to see the fish (and some people) spread out. Keep at it.

I'll try to get over to the falls with a trash bag and do some cleaning, probably grab that tire near the fish ladder entrance also while I am there.

Yeah that sucks,………..but it keeps you comin’ back!

In the early 1990’s, same thing happened to me on the Big D. near Upper Black Eddy. In the spring, casting craw dad tail for smallies, something picked it up & I couldn’t stop it with 6 lb. test. Then, I did land a 2 lb. striper. And, I saw stripers chasing herring in waist deep water. Stripers were unheard of there @ that time.

Returned with heavier equipment & started catching some beasts.

With this low, low, water,…..guessing you hooked into it @ the base of a non-fish ladder dam.

No sir no damn involved at all. Just got to know where the deep holes are. I'm going back everyday with heavier gear haha

I guess that means these fish are jumping over the Headgates in Duke Island Park

No, as the lower Raritan is cooler,........some trout will be swimming downstream into their open maws.

So these trout will be swimming over the Headgates in Duke Island Park down to the tidal section of the Rariran river ? Looks like the fish ladder in South Bound Brook is closed, guess these trout will have to swim over that waterfall also
