I heard Spring lake freezer is out of spearing for the season? has anyone been having trouble getting spearing? it seems to me the bait this year is sparse. By this time I've already netted a lot of baits, not this year. Maybe the storm f-ed it up I don't know.

supposedly Canada shut down the spearing fishery causing the shortage. Manasquan River was loaded with small spearing over the weekend

On Sunday I was able to catch about a quart of spearing with a few drops of my square drop net (using bread bait) from the bulkhead at Marine Park in Red Bank.

However, snapper action there at red Bank and the pier in Fair Haven was slow.
