if your using it for lures the heyward is the standard way of doing it. I prefer the premade flouro leaders, its usually 100lb and its tuff stuff. If your talkin about tieing ur own quick strikes for live bait, Ive only used the premade ones. Its usually 2 trebles or a single treble and a keeper line, w the line tied in an upside down V. Some have rubber bands other have toothpick keepers, u set the hook quickly in the opposite direction the fish is swimming. Easiest is prob to look on google images for one, northland tackle makes the ones I use and just copy the setup.

First off, I would go with minimum 100-pound single strand. Second, it's a "haywire" twist and it's the only thing you need to know to make steel leaders. Third, you do not use crimps on wire leaders. And fourth, forget the quick strike rigs, man-up and throw a jerkbait.;)

U can barrel wrap SS rigging wire instead of haywire , either one works smaller fish u can barrel w/ the softer SS wire . Seven strand wire is a close second & U can crimp this wire W/O issue !
Copper wire can also be utilized , might look into product used to deep troll on Gt Lakes . Copper will not readily kink& makes a decent bite leader !&
I believe some heavier strengths are now available . Research LOU web to gain more info on this product .
Borrowing from my offshore techniques I would search out a company called Quik Rig couple of items they mfg can be utilized for rigging live & dead baits quickly !
If UR a novice then purchase UR rigs until U can later develop rig ideas by expirrance .
Most FW rigs very simplistic nature !

Just for the record I wade threw chest deep water, all kinds of stickers and throw a cast net to catch my own bait.. Lil diff. then goin to a store and picking out a lure.. Also, I cast out my sukas 1-2 lbs 10-16 inch and bring em' in.. in a jerk pause retrieve.. I haven't had any issues with deep hooksets and litterly get bit every time I go.. alot of times within 10 min.. BIG fish seen prob every lure by now n know what the real deal is.. So I asked how to tie the leaders not what to use to fish and am confident my ways more manly then goin shopping.. Thanx for the leader tips ppl
