amazing fish and a pretty interesting story, i wonder if they ever intended to pay out the million or thought it was just good advertising, who woulda ever thought someone would nail a IGFA record fish lol. the chances are like winning the powerball

i'm sure they would have paid. businesses take out insurance policies to cover contests such as this, so the cost to Mustad is just the cost of whatever the insurance company charged for the policy (which they have already paid).

It's not Mustad that's not paying...it's IGFA not recognizing it. If IGFA recognizes it then Mustad would pay...they would have to in that situation. Like acabtb said it's paid by an insurance policy usually....so the insurance company aint payin if IGFA doesn't recognize it...they leagally couldn't pay really. Their shareholders would not be very appreciative if they paid a claim that wasn't a claim.

And I don't think any court can overturn a rule that is written and governed by...basically...a fishing club. It's their "rule" not a "law" that says it's a spreader rig. I feel for the guy but I don't think he has a shot.

It's all business...not emotion or sense of what's right.

If the 'lure(s)' is legal in the state, than they should pay. Simple as that.
