Raritan river 7/28/13:

Fished the big run below the Queens Bridge in Bound Brook and got a nice largemouth in the fast water on a 3/32 black marabou jig. That was about it, no stripers.
Moved down to the 2nd 287 crossing and fished the big run there and found no love. Didn't see any dead fish but did see a lot of redds and baitfish. Glad to finally get out even if it was only for a few hours in my leaky waders.
There is parking for a few cars now by the South Bound Brook side of the Queens Bridge if you want to access that spot, just walk across the road and there is a path that will take you right under the bridge. By the 2nd 287 crossing there is the Riverview Park and you can drive all the way to the back and the river access is right there.

Nice job Andy, its crazy where you will find largemouth in rivers sometimes. Gatto an I hit the Manville stretch toward the ladder last night after Little Swartswood and we got a bunch of little smallies, no big ones around though. Last year must've been a good spawn for the smallmouth in the river b/c there are TONS of dink smallies running around.

The big ones are there. I think they are stuffed with suckers, creek chubs and shiners ;) http://i1333.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8d0d6f6e.png

Definately suckers! There were huge schools of suckers in the river a week or two ago upstream of 206. FastEddie and I were talking about the next state record smallie coming from the Raritan yesterday. She's in there somewhere!
