What Is Going on With Bluefish???
 

Well, I guess somebody had to ask it. The other day I went on my normal bluefish boat party boat trip that i do annually do with my dad out of pp. when I was rigging up with a diamond jig the mate asked me if i had any fluke rigs. Fluke??? if i wanted fluke i would go on a fluke boat. turns out they haven't gotten a blue in weeks. Are you kidding me? I mean these are bluefish we are talking about, not exactly the most elusive species in our waters. What is going on, is it just a weird year or should i even dare to think that the worst happened and all our years of killing them by the boatload daily, finally caught up with us?

There are plenty of Bluefish around the problem is they are too far offshore to get to. I don't think your going to find a boat that's going to travel 50 miles or more for Bluefish.

more giant blues than you would ever want to see 60 miles off .

nah its not overfishing.. theres a mizillion bluefish .. they'll turn up inshore soon. my guess by august 1 they'll be a fleet at the mud buoy picking them every day

we curse them when we are fishing for fluke or stripers

Pretty much all of the blue fish boats out of PP or Belmar have been posting they are either fluking or ling/cbass fishing after they can't find blues/bass. Reports have been all over home pages, internet, and this website! Should have been no surprise that the boat wasn't looking for them. Def not the boats fault at all...or the anglers who have been fishing and keeping them.
