Parabolic Stand Up / Trolling Rods
 

I thought I had posted this prior to now, but I have guys telling me that I have not made it clear on other forums. So, I am trying to explain it better now.

We have been testing & building these rods for just about 3 years now, and have 4 or 5 models we are selling as of right now.

We have the JCT Combo Rod ( Jig Chunk Troll), as well as stand up rods and trolling rods that we have designed, using a more parabolic blank to make the rod lighter, stronger and more comfortable. So far, we have several charter captains using them, with very good results, as they allow for their customers to fight fish with more comfort. Great for women, children, seniors and the experienced fisherman too!

They take the same concepts as vertical jigging rods, but we have applied it to these other types of rods.
We do rods up to 130# class, with rollers, that are 80/20 true parabolic rods. Thats pretty dam close to being perfect, and with rods that require longer fore grips, rollers and aluminum butts.

We have been testing,breaking, making these rods since early 2010, once I was converted over to a believer of a good parabolic rod and its benefits. I have posted many rods we do, but some of the readers are now telling me that I was never clear on the actual design of these rods. The benefits are there, especially on the bigger rods that we can shrink down to outperform much larger styles. We know the way we always loved IGFA Rated blanks, Harnell Blanks, Fischer Blanks, ...... well we are offering these actions now, in much thinner, lighter rods.

Some pics below and maybe a better explanation... this rod is rated to surpass 130#, yet is light enough to use a 30# reel. Will drag bars, lures, you name it. It is tougher than the old 7' IGFA Heavy Duty Rods we see. Except its 1/4 the weight, size. WE also build them with Winthrop Roller Guides!

This one below is the rod that is serving as a multi task rod. Jig, chunk & troll, with one rod. JCT Combo Rod - When matched with the right reels, you can drag lures with the same rod you jig & chunk with. weighing under 15ozs with a slick butt, aluminum reel seat and aluminum gimbal. This rod landed some big shark over the last 3 weeks. ( Including a 435# thresher in under 40 minutes. )

This is a traditional stand up rod. Fats action, shuts down quick, placing some heat on the user. Now there are rods out there besides ours, I am in no way saying we make the best. Calstar for one offers one of the best rods in this traditional action. Kevin Bogan is the man to see for that.

To explain it a little better, the old rods that many of us still look for had some of these very same so called " Parabolic Actions". These rods are desired for trolling, sharking, chunking, etc... because of the way the rod will assist in the hook set, make it easier for the angler to fight the fish when that fish sees the boat and decides to show you what he really has. Problem has always been, the materials the rod blanks were made of, caused the rods to be larger, heavier, plus we were using larger reels.

Todays technology is allowing for smaller, lighter rods, as well as smaller reels. We took this concept once I was made a "believer" of these new jigging rods, and we started searching. We have had many blanks run, some good, some bad. We have broken a good amount of rods too! It has not been all glory, by any means.

Since 2010, I would say we went through at least a dozen blanks for each model we offer now. ( WE have 5 or 6 models we offer now, to give you an idea) Stupid mistakes, too much faith, trying to do too much, all part of the mistakes we have made. As of last year, it started coming together, then Sandy came along and crushed our big FALL Premier we planned on!

For example, we have guys fighting sharks and landing fish over 400# on the JCT Combo Rod. When matched with a smaller stronger reel, these guys are using what looks like a blackfish, fluke rod to land mako, threshers! ( in much less time too) This is the rod below, so you can see what I am talking about:

Now that other builders are starting to talk about similar rods, I have guys/customers/friends, ready to start internet wars, claiming they are stealing ideas. Truth is, I don't see it that way. A good builder will always look to improve their product. The guys who claim they are the first to come up with the idea, well they are not, and I doubt we were the first either. Im sure somebody thought of it before we did. The issue here is that I have not been clear on the concept and amount of rods we offer like this. I assumed it was known without the long explanations. We started offering them to the public last year, after testing since 2010 with many charter boats located all over the world, including Australia.
