Raritan river float 6/23/13:
2 Attachment(s)
Floated from Roberts St. to the 2nd 287 crossing today. Got on the water around 6am and got off at 1pm. I snagged a big sucker at Roberts St and got a nice smallmouth above Manville, 2 fish all day. I threw jigs, a 4" Rapala, large saltwater Bombers, and live crayfish. Hit the Manville hole hard with live crayfish and found no love. Saw a total of 4 people fishing the river today, 2 when I launched and 2 at the falls. Also saw a big snake on a rock, a beaver, a bald eagle, many cormorants, and assorted turtles and frogs, saw no dead fish. Water was off and a bit high, 71* when I put in 74* when I took out.
Not going on my rant about stocking today. Had a great float, very relaxing and good exercise. Penns Creek water out by State College : 6/19/2013 Over the past couple of weeks the creek hit 74 degrees 2 times. Tonight I got 71 degrees so with this cool weather we should get another week on the lower water, then we will have another week in the middle and upper sections. |

The 2nd 287 crossing is close to home. Call da wife and she gets me. Go back to the house, chill, unload, then the drive over to Raritan. All in a days work.
