Re gearing a reel

Daiwa has the Saltiga LD20HS @ 7.1:1 which is a bit overkill I think, but the reel is built like a tank! My question is, has anyone ever torn a reel down and re geared one to a lower ratio? I know most reel gears are size specific to the housing and corresponding parts...but is it possible, and if so...what reel did you do it to?

Thanks

Re: Re gearing a reel

On further inspection, the LD20HS is just a redesigned Saltiga 20 which has 5.4:1 gear ratio. Might wait to see what next years Saltiga looks like....of which I already own 2. Haha!

Thanks for the heads up Alex. Might pick Pete's brain soon on a Newell conversion.
