Possible record Mako caught

1,323 pound Mako caught off Southern California could be a record.

Guy is catching hell out here from many for keeping it. Almost all makos are released in So-Cal. Same captain had a 900 lber the week before. These big fish feed on seals and porpoise in Cal.

Re: Possible record Mako caught

Makos need to be around 600 pounds to reach sexual maturity. "Both male and female Shortfin Mako Sharks reach sexual maturity
at an age of 4–6 years. This corresponds to a total length of 200cm
for males and 275cm for females".
So this fish was mature & had the chance to reproduce. It will do a great deal of good being studied. I am sure Researchdude can fill us in on the importance of having specimens like this to study. The tree hugger in the story sounds like a real beauty.
