Hooking Bunker Heads

Always wondered what is the best way to hook a bunker head. Using them from the surf I would hook the bunker head through the lips in order to cast it out. When the bass eats the bunker head it runs and positions the bunker head to eat it hook first, when the bunker head is hooked in the lips the hook can turn leaving a sick feeling in your stomach when you pull the bunker out of the fishes mouth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thru the back and out the gill plate. If the hook is thru the lips ,the hook folds back when the bass eats it lips first causing lots of misses.

Hook it thru the meat in the top of the head. This allows for a better hook set. No gill plates or bones to get in the way as the hook will tear out of the bunker's head as opposed to getting buried in it.
