perch fishing question

ive been fishing brady bridge each of the last few years for perch and crappie with sucess on husky jerks, bait and jigs fished without a bobber. I know a lot of guys fish the jigs under bobbers. I know the type of jigs and bobber but was wondering about distance between jig and float and what action works. Thanks in advance..
