Butterfly jigs and stripers

(Not just butterfly jigs, but assist hooks attached to the front of the jig in that style.) They seem to be getting popular. Last week I saw some ava-style jigs rigged that way, news to me.

So, are they effective for catching stripers, or just striper fishermen? My own sense is that I don't miss lots of fish for lack of a front hook.

we use the STINGO PBJ jigs for stripers instead of diamond jigs.
just in lighter sizes than we tuna fish with . They are deadly when bass are on sand eels.
I like using an assist hook on the head and take the tail hook off

Use them all of the time. Many captains locally use them too. They have more action than a regular diamond jig, they make for easy release and to me....... just stronger connection between you and the fish overall.

I use assist hooks on Spanko Jigs, OMT Butterflys, CMT Diamonds and several of our own designs. I use a glow hook as well, which on some days can make a difference in the bite.

Its not new, Mike on The Renegade has been doing it for years. He is the 1st one I heard of using them, and the guy I got the idea from. :)
