Abu Garcia Revo Inshore

Dropped of my Revo Inshore to neighbor who has friend that services all his reels. Reel was working perfectly when i dropped it off, just wanted it cleaned and greased as preventitive maintenance as it is one of my go to reels come fluke bucktailing season. When i get it back i have no free spool and reel does not function properly.

Any suggestions of place or person locally I can bring it to that works on Abu Garcia reels. Have friend in LI (Lep) but would rather not have to ship.
Please provide me with their contact info

Alex

Re: Abu Garcia Revo Inshore

I bet the neighbor's friend put too much grease all over the place and eliminated freespool.
I too service my own reels and have done that before, because I thought "too much grease can't be bad, right? It'll only protect the parts.."
and made sure I packed the bearings (including spool bearings) with heavy marine grease. 30 seconds of freespool went to 6 seconds. Ended up taking it all apart and removed excess grease and oiled spool bearing with Reel X and was back to normal.

If you are a little handy, you can definately do it yourself.
Here's something you can refer to..

Yupp I've done the same thing when I first started servicing reels. Break it back down, remove all the grease from the gears and bearings. Then use ReelX on everything and you should be back to new again, possibly even better then new! That ReelX stuff is pretty amazing.

Hey just thought of something, you did try to loosen the tension knob by the handle right? Sounds obvious, but never know.

Thanks for the info. Will take apart as maybe it was overgreased

Google Alan Tani's website. He often gets complaints similar to yours and 9 out of 10 times it's due to greased spool bearings that should have been oiled instead. His site will probably have a detailed breakdown of your reel with step by step pics of the breakdown to ensure you put each piece back together correctly.
