Barnegat offshore SeaBass trip

Jon "fish pedaller" Mueller, Chad "SeaSoda" Bennett and I headed to BI on the DM non sponsor after seeing that our local favorite was booked.

We left BI at 11PM into a snotty ocean and after only 8 hours of riding in the trough arrived on the grounds. Chad, Jon and I had our limit by 900 and continued to cull and catch for people that weren't feeling too swift.

The Capt pulled the anchors at 1115 when the wind and seas really picked up. Back at the dock at 400 with a cooler full of fish and the first and second pools. Chad pulled a nice 7lb SB.

Pics to come later.

I was on the Thurs night Friday trip and did equally well. We didn't leave till 12:30am allowing for the winds and seas to die down a bit. Started fishing around 6am as the sun came up. One stop shopping, with just a few wiggles. Limited out by 10am and then started culling. The last hour the big fish started chewing. Pink curly tail grub on a single hook rig was the ticket. I didn't see any porgys come up. Pulled anchors around 11am, at the dock by 3pm.

Nice going!

"8 hours of riding in the trough"

If I made this trip with you guys, you'd prob have caught "my" limit as well.

Just finished dinner, Gambler Sea Bass steamed right in the Vac seal bag with mixed veggies and black beans. Yum!

Bill

Good times! Fun starting off the evening with wine, cheese, codfish salad and grapa with some new Croatian friends. Even though it was raining pretty good, it was pretty warm. I only had my oilers, a shirt and my rain jacket on. No gloves needed. I tried jigging a bit and caught a few smaller ones, but the jig did not produce like it did a couple of weeks ago. For me, the clam worked best.

Definitely a great time and a pleasant surprise to see you guys come aboard!

Really a great bunch of guys on the boat and the grappa, wine, peach liquor and cognac certainly facilitated a lot more sleep than I'm accustomed to on the way out lol. The cabin was so toasty warm I ended up putting on my slicks and sleeping outside up top. The raindrops pelting my hood put me right to sleep :)

The action started off a little on the slow side with mostly smaller fish coming up at first. Things quickly changed after our first adjustment on the lines and the big boys quickly came up one after the other. Had my limit of nice biscuits by about 9:30 and helped a few other guys out that werent as lucky. I also managed to put 10 big ling in the box as well and my 2 boys loved the fresh ling fishstick dinner tonight!

Almost got to pull the double header trips but Saturday's Voyager trip got blown out. I will admit I was the tiniest bit relieved, though lol

Importantly, I did achieve the objective of stocking up the freezer with a lot of gorgeous whole biscuits :) Already cant wait to get out again!

Just wondering when you start cullling what do you do with the smaller fish?

We give them to the people that are ill or just not catching. If their coolers are full, we give them to the mates.
