What is your budget?
What rod will you be matching reel to ?

It really depends on your budget, but if I was going to pick one reel it would be a Daiwa Saltiga 20 star drag. I also use this reel for offshore seabass, fluke, striper, shallow tilefishing, cod, and even jigging small tuna. I have had mine for 4 years and it had literally caught hundreds of fish.

Re: reels

I'd also recommend the Daiwa Saltist 20 star drag. Mine is the levelwind version, but either is good. Had mine for a number of years and just serviced it myself which was very easy to do. A little Reel X on the main bearing the thing is smooooooth as silk! Great little tank of a reel. I have the Avet SX as well and although both are powerful, the Saltist is smoother.

Re: reels

If you are feeling a little spendy, def. Saltiga 20, as others have recommended.
I took my friend's saltiga 20, 30T apart for maint. and cf drag and I could tell that they were real quality reels.
If on a budget, avet sx or saltist star drag works fine as well.

A 310 or 320 GTI penn, Under $100, killer reels.

I have been using an Avet S/X for years works fine for me. Also have a Torium 14 that was my original Tog reel and is now my back up. Both work fine for me.
