Surf Fishing for Tuna
I was talking to someone that might have been just telling a fish tale but I thought I would ask here anyway.
Someone told me that you can catch tuna from the surf in Sandy Hook in like October. Any truth to this? If so please share tips, tackle requirements etc. Thanks! |
Re: Surf Fishing for Tuna
I think you'd be wasting a lot of time and effort. Is it possible? Yes..... Probable? No..... You might have better odds hitting the lottery, that is unless you are talking about some of the smaller members of the tuna family like spanish macks, false albacore or bonita. Even then the odds are pretty low.
Tell your buddy you are calling BS on him. |
Re: Surf Fishing for Tuna
Some years I hear of 1 or 2 caught, some years none.

Thanks everyone, I thought it sounded fishy to me.
P.S. Gerry, Been coming to this site for years now but just started posting on here. So nice to see the owner actively posting on the site too. One of those nice touches. |

Re: Surf Fishing for Tuna
I know of one caught off the beach last year and heard it was pretty good size, but even the angler said the fish would've spooled him had it not made a bee-line for the beach for some off reason.
