Passaic River 7/10

Hit the river today in search of some new spots. Launched at noon, unfortunately, and motored an hour upstream.

First hour or two had some action. 2 small pike, a big perch, and a decent 25" pike for my brother. Soon after I hooked up a nice pike who decided to release himself boatside. Prob around 30" and pretty thick.

After that we hit some slow fishing. I switched up to senkos, which I rarely use. Picked up a decent smallie and my first white slab of the year (scrath that off the list). In the meantime, my brother picked up another decent pike and and nice lmb.

All in all a nice mixed bag, but no beasts today. Good times........

Great report and great catching! I tried a different spot yesterday from 5:30-7:30 PM and was lucky to find a few deep holes that held a bunch of pike. I hooked about 15 and landed about 10, with 3 being just over 30 inches. All the rest were in the 20-30" range. I did see a few bigger ones, but took off as soon as I threw the spinner bait near them.

Yeah, i was hoping to get out much earlier but had some stuff to do. Mid-day seemed really slow for a while. Oh well, at least I beat the skunk........

No probs, I didnt want you to have an inaccurate list

They do look confusing as some are very light and some are very dark.. Passaic is funny that way, its because of the forage...... You can catch really big dark black Crappie by the water pump station in 2 bridges.... actually hop your yak in to the water pump station and go all the way to the back....

I didn't realize that black crappie are more spotty while white crappie have more distinct lines. Also, while checking pics, I saw one of a hybrid crappie. Looked kinda similar, anyone?
