shark leader material

I've been using about 10' of 49 strand connected to about 4' single strand wire. The only thing I don't like is that the 49 strand tendds to splinter.
What do you think about using 300# mono instead of the 49 strand cable?

While we're on the subject, what hooks do you use? I've been using 10/0
7699's.

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

I would increase the single strand to 6ft and then you should be ok with the mono.
