Yeah. They must be endangered, too.

Re: No More Keeping Pout.
Most people I know think they are too ugly to keep anyway. Don't taste bad but not great either. More interesting are the regulations on witch flounder/grey sole, and and yellowfin flounder. How does one differentiate those from winter flounder??? I caught a few "grey sole" last year but I'm sure if NJDEP was at the dock or on-board there would be problems.

Re: No More Keeping Pout.
Who's catching Atlantic halibut off the coast of NJ anyway?
|
Re: No More Keeping Pout.
Illegal in all federal waters unless stated that it only applies to a certain region. I know of one or two halibut caught here every year by commercial fisherman. Yellowtail flounder are lighter in color with some speckles, have an even smaller and more elongated mouth and are almost as thin as a windowpane. Rarely caught on hook and line, always in the ocean.

Re: No More Keeping Pout.
It started a few years ago with the moratorium on wolffish. Apparently they think people can't tell them apart.
