Passaic River

Hi everyone I am new to this site and do all types of freshwater fishing. In the spring I feel that the Passaic River is at it's best. I headed out last Tuesday morning around 9 am and within 10 minutes my shiner came to the top and a nice pike about 36 inches rose to the top and stared at it for about 20 seconds and just ambushed my shiner. It was probably the best pike strike I have ever seen. I was tiring him out and he took drag and went under a log and broke my line. I went back the next two days later in the day and didn't get a bite. Friday morning I got up and saw that it was a nice day and had to go back since I was on a mission to get a pike. Sure enough I hooked one smaller pike around 25 inches that was fat. Threw my line back out and BAM! Hooked into a nice pike and this time I wasn't letting this one go. I got him onto shore and sure enough it was the one I had lost. The other hook was still in it's mouth. It was 36 inches just as I predicted. I was glad I went back because I was angry all week about the one I had lost. I am sure you guys would feel the same. Here are some pics. I was alone so couldn't get the pic I wanted which sucks. The smaller one is on top and the second two pics are of the bigger one.

Re: Passaic River
Nice Fish!! On a fly rod no less. What type of line on you use in there?

Re: Passaic River
"fly rod"
Anyway, welcome to the site, thanx for the post and pike photos ! |
Re: Passaic River
Jersey G, Thanks but it was not a fly rod. It was actually a 7 ft St. Croix Mojo Bass rod lol. A lot of my friends use steel liters. I don't like doing that. I use 15 lb power pro with a 15 lb flourocarbon liter. I think I catch more fish with the flourocarbon. However, I may switch to 20 because lately I have lost a couple of pike.

Re: Passaic River
Oops. At a quick glance, the bobber looked like a low mounted reel on a fly rod. Too busy checking out the fish.
