South Jersey Mixed Bag 3/18
4 Attachment(s)
After getting skunked at the South Branch, Spruce Run, and Round Valley yesterday I decided to stay down here in the south today.
I started at Oldmans Creek drifted large shiners and got a 21 inch and 15 inch bowfin. I also was bouncing a crawler for sunnies and and was hit by a 14 inch bowfin. Fought and landed on an ultalight with 4 lb test line. I have no idea how- I guess the line just missed all those teeth! After a crowd started to form, I moved up to Swedes lake in Burlington county. I spend the next two hours catching non stop 10-13 inch yellow perch, small bass and nice sunnies. Then on the way home I stopped at the Rancocas Creek hoping to catch a cat or bullhead but only got some tiny white perch. Mixed bag- 51 fish/ 7 species Check out the spot and neon green fins on the male bowfin in the 2nd picture. it must be spawning time. |

nice, sounds like a good day. there is not much that makes me happier to catch than 10-13" perch... and that's cool with the bowfins, i didn't know we had them here
