NJF opening day meet and greet April 7th:

I'll let you decide. I know it wasn't us last year, the entire state had a hard time catching trout on opening day due to very low water temps.

I know alot of people prefer smaller streams on opening day and not large rivers.

We need a spot with ample parking and plenty of room, that in itself is hard to find on opening day. Should we get 2 inches of rain the day before you might as well forget about it.

If we get a spot, I'll bring the donuts and kawfee.

Im definately in. Im sure there will be a couple of fish at Duke Island but you never know. I cant think of anywhere else we could meet that has ample parking. I say we catch some trout and then go to my spot on the Passaic and liveline them. I dont know but whatever goes down IM IN!!! If that doesnt work out ill be in the back of the bay catching STRIPERS!!!

so here I am again scratching my head "duke island park?" and that is of course... where? is that. Lol growing up in monmouth county I feel most of us young bucks were scared to try anywhere far...ESPECIALLY if we had to go all the way over the big bridge! Now I am a seasoned commuter of nj and just have to pinpoint more areas. thanks in advance - Adam - now lives in Woodbridge and commutes to Red Bank every day.

google says 27.4 miles and 40 minutes. thats the same time it takes for me to get to the manasquan or less, how are the conditions there, rocky, sandy, muddy?

All 3 conditions there. If you fish the muddysqun, you will love Dukes...see you then.

Duke Island Park has it all, big slow pools, fast moving water over shale flats, and a huge waterfall with hold over trout.

Duke Island may not have the most fish of any Opening Day spot, but I can't think of a better place to accommodate a large group where you won't be shoulder-to-shoulder at 8:01.

Besides, if Eddie's bringing the scotch, I may be too drunk to fish! :D

Sigh... :(

Must be the fishing-gods having a laugh that opening day always coincides on my wife's birthday. Location would have been perfect for me but no way I can get out that morning. Hope you guys have much better luck with them stockies than last year!

I would be wiliing to drive a little, regardless of the location. None of my passaic spots would be good considering I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to park at some of them. :D
So far so good though.........
