Fall Jigging
 

Not sure if its been talked about here, but figured it fits the season.

When jigging for bass or cod in the Fall, we have found that using a teaser above the actual jig will catch about 50% of the fish and at times.....will result in double headers.

My go to color for the teaser is usually "GLOW" and it works on everything from bass, to cod, to tuna. Depending ont he species you are fishing for, often the hook size will be 4/0 or 5/0 for the teaser.

Placement of the teaser is pretty important we have found. I keep it between 12-18" from the jig. While testing different theorys, we have found that anything further than 18" just does not seem to work as well. No matter what color you are using for the jigs, the glow teasers seem to work best, especially in deeper water!

Using a simple teaser rig is all you have to do. Use a swivel to connect the rig to your main line, a snap swivel for the jig, ( some guys prefer no swivel to jig), and a simple dropper loop for the teaser itself.

I must note that most PBs and some charters frown upon using teasers for obvious reasons. However, it's OK on a private boat. I will add, there are days the jig that looks the closest to the bait seems to do the best and there's days something that looks nothing like the bait seems to work the best. From what I have seen, gold hammereds seem to work almost all the time IMO. Also, make sure your hooks are sharp and your jig is running straight, don't want to be missing fish and pulling hooks all day. Hope that also helps.

also do not forget to use bait on all lures and slowly lift n drop on the bottom only NEVER TURN THE HANDLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the match the hatch approach but sometimes I mix it up with large jigs . I also switch all trebles to single hooks . Casting letting the jig hit bottom and reeling it back cover's most of the water column and Bass like to chase . Salas , Crocs , Hammered Diamonds , and Ava's all work well for me . I also use a 10 crank burn and let the jig flutter back to the bottom .

listen here kid you use my technique you will catch plenty of spiny bass!!!!!!!:D
