Rvr - 10/28

My buddy and I decided to try to hit RVR for some laker action thinking they might be less affected by the moving cold front as all the other fish. A little windy and pretty cold air when the wind blew. It was nice in the sun when there was no wind. The water was still on that 59-60* mark. We found a bunch of marks around 60-80 feet but not a whole lot wanted to play.

I only caught 2 with one pop-off and my buddy only had 1 with a few pop offs jigging. All small fish around 3lbs. These are definately cold water fish and I think they're just still starting to wake up.

Andy S - I finally see what you were saying about the wet beach towel affect. When we were catching them last december, they were definately more aggressive and harder fighters in the cold upper 30-low 40* waters.

Not even a trout, a char. I will be stating my case December 3 at the open forum meeting in Hackettstown. Why have the program?, to destroy Merrill Creek like they killed Round Valley, the whole program needs to go into the garbage.
My problem is I remember going to Round Valley in May and the parking lot would be closed by 10am because of the volume of people and 8 to 10lb. brown trout were the norm.

Nice report btw.

Yea there used to be alot of big browns in there in the early years. Not many of those monsters left. Good job on the Lakers!!! I would personally like to see RVR stocked with TROPHY tiger and brown trout and maybe a few bows. Also like to see monster smallies put back in!!!

There are big smallies and LMB in there, the problem is finding them. We marked a bunch of fish on top of some drop offs in 40-50' but no takers.

The smallie population just seems like its dropped alot at RVR. Its getting harder and harder to find the 5 pounders in there. Those monster lakers eat everything.

I think the same happened at MCR:mad: . As long as someone would be willing to teach me and my dad how to fish for them, I would defintely try and put a dent in the population:p .
