Small water fishing 10/15/11

Met up with Wilson this morning and we headed over to the Mulhockaway, hoping some of the big browns from the reservoir had moved up. No big browns to be had, but we did manage a few trout on worms. The water was a little high, but crystal clear. After that it was up to Beaver Brook, where Wilson scored a couple of fat rainbows. Water was high and tea-colored. After a quick lunch we headed to the North Branch at Natirar, and broke the game wide open. It was drop-and-reel action for hours, with sunnies, rock bass, chubs, trout, smallmouths, largemouths, perch, pickerel; just about everything but bluefish! They hit almost everything we threw at them, which was good for us since we kept losing lures. Water was low and just a tiny bit dirty. A few nice bass and trout, but by and large nothing really big. Still, with conservative estimates at over 100 fish between the two of us, I'll take it.

Good job to both of you, and great pics. How big are the "big" browns that have come from Mulhockaway in the past? I didnt think Spruce Run had any holdovers.

Went back to the scene of crime this morning.
Best SMB I've caught this year. The fish comes up to the fifth wrap on my rod. |
