Personal best catfish:
I had a good vacation. First fishing up on the Beaverkill in NY for trout, then logged a good amount of time on Merrill Creek Res, finished up fishing the the club in Blairstown with Wilson. We were looking forward to a fun filled day of perch, crappie, bass and pickerel. We used live shiners today and I got a run off like a usual bass, went to set the hook and felt the weight, I told Wilson we better get off the anchors and hunt this fish down. The fish dragged us around the lake for what seemed to be a half an hour, finally got her to the net, a chunky 31" channel that felt every bit of 15lbs. It was a great fight on 6lb. test and the tiny #8 hook never let go. We got the fish back in the water after a few photos.
2 - PB's over my vacation, a 21" smallmouth at Merrill Creek Res, and the catfish...............back to work ! (again, photo credits to Wilson) |

I lost an half hour of fishing time waiting for him to get the Catty to the boat. It took 4 hands on the net hoop to haul this thing in. While the Catfish stole the show today Andy was on fire today on every cast. He caught 3 or 4 LMB, 2 Giant Crappies, a Bluegill on a live shiner and a Perch or two as well.
Catfish on the Lake...baaahhahhhah. How bout Catfish in the boat!!!!! What a beast, biggest Catfish I personally have seen. And yes the good camera and photographer where there to capture this PB catch. And oh yeah, get a bigger net!! |

There were no Trout to be had today...kinda unusual for that lake. You must have a DEEP deep fryer:eek: |
Re: Personal best catfish:
Awesome kitty!
A weight formula for channel cats courtesy of Wikipedia: W = (L/L1)^b (Invariably, b is close to 3.0 for all species, L1 is the length of a typical fish weighing 1 kg. For channel catfish, b = 3.2293, somewhat higher than for many common species, and L1 = 45.23 cm) Based on this formula, your fish weighed in at a hair under 6 kg, or approximately 13.21 pounds. |
