How is Merril creek in the summer?

I figured with the deeper water it might help with all this hot weather we are having. Is trout an option or is bass better?

It's stinks, besides you want to sit in a boat and bake !

It's get on and get the hell off! If you lived nearby, you could catch a few bass first thing, possibly on topwater targeting the herring schools before it's all over. Topwater at dawn and dusk at a local lake is always a good bet during a heat wave. Did real well this morning at a new lake and got off before the real heat hit.

It's beautiful......hot.....and seemingly devoid of all fish! From what I have experienced with Bass anyway. The problem is that you can't be on after Dark or before sun up. So the only option is bakin' in the sun. You can't even generate a breeze beause it's electric only.

I love the place.....just not in the heat of summer.

Even though it's not worth it unless your a local, you can be on the water by 5:15 am if you get the right guy opening the gate and can focus on the morning bite. Be off the water in 2-3 hours. Of course, the water's probaly very warm and the fish can go deep. A cloudy day is always your best bet as the water is clear. However, unless you are a local, the ride just isn't worth it until the fall.

That means 48 probably ended up dead :(

Surface temperature was like 80 degrees yesterday, no matter how careful people are releasing them, even if it's cutting the line 8 feet from the hook so the fish never leaves the water the temperature change is severe.

Columbia lake has shallow cold spring areas for these times the hotter the better the SM and trout pack on the springs.. drop a worm down. they're ice cold to the touch...brutal....brutal hot boat sun awefull heat the bring tons of water! But it works! also if the lakes you fish have cold water coming in even tiny little brooks will attract tons of fish. be sneaky fish slow.
