Catfish Bait/WV Catfish Report

Some more feedback for our catfish bait discussion. I'm still down in WV and did some night-fishing on the Monongahela River last night. Night-crawlers didn't produce, I caught a channel about 5-pounds on Hatter's stinkbait and I had an 8-pound flathead eat a bluegill.

Re: Catfish Bait/WV Catfish Report

Grew up in the South catfishing. We used to catch small bluegill for Bait and live line them overnight on rod-n-reel, jugs, and limb lines. Still got my "gear" (i.e. jugs) in the attic and the set lines once used. Catching 50-100 lbs of fillets over the weekend at night was good eating for a long time...Folks loved the free fresh cat fish! This type of fishing is not available in NJ due to the pike/pickerel. Think there are restrictions to set lines in NJ due to these species, and perhaps rightfully so. Not a problem in the south, but you gotta watch out for the GIANT GAR!
