Spring Lake 4/28
The fog was thick, the wind was whipping out of the SE, raining on and off, but was able to get a couple of nice rainbows at Spring Lake on Green Power Bait... tried spinners, phoebes, but Power Bait was the only thing working... and the weather didn't bother the Cormorants at all. Watched one come up with a nice trout in his mouth and get sucked right down like candy....

There seems to be 2 Cormorants that have made their home there (hope there's not more) and for the couple of hours I was there last week they both ate a couple of brookies each. They are constantly diving for food. So not sure how many they consume in a day but its not good. I guess sunnies are too quick or less tasty lol.

Well.... yesterday, there were about 8 of them having a Pow Wow in the middle of the lake for a while, probably planning their strategy, and then they all went in different directions after the meeting was over. It looked like submarine periscopes cruising the whole lake. In the 3 weeks since opening day, I've seen them consume a heck of lot more then I'm catching this year. I'm paying for the trout license so they can eat all the fish!!:mad:

Stray bullets from the nearby shooting range might end up hitting them...
and that sounds like it would be a total accident... if you know what i mean... :) |

You're paying to feed a few osprey too. I haven't been up there this spring yet, but I always seem them on Hopatcong this time of year. They cruise sky-high and then nose-dive to grab the trout in their talons. Really cool stuff. Feels like you're in Alaska. I also have caught a couple trout from Hopatcong this time of year that have huge holes from the talons but managed to escape. And while we're on the subject, you're also paying to feed the musky in Hopatcong and the pike in the South Branch. I'm sure there are plently left over though.
