Labor Day thoughts

First: Wishing all a save, sane, happy and fruitful holiday..

I was remembering back in the '90's I always got real excited about Labor Day as the first Tuesday after, the Gambler's tuna season started. Muldune, Dennis and I couldn't wait for that Tuesday to arrive; we always made it and some trips were truly, and I hate this overused word, epic with over 100 yft, mahi and even a few birds. Everyone caught and a few times we came in early. Those trips were all 24 hr.. 80# test at night, then 50# at daylight, a spinner for mahi and maybe a jigging rod. It took a few years before we lightened up on line/leaders during full sunup.
But that was then and this is now.

Still, getting antsy anticipating the first 30 hr. trip on the 24th.

Me too Chuckie ! I was there for some of them. I remember you and John warming up on Bluefish a few weeks before the long weekend. Or when Capt. Rich Dulski taught us how to tie a Palomar knot and offsetting Mustad Duratin Circles. They were all that we chunked with in the early trips.

Yea Pete, I learned a lot from you and Dolski---some memorable trips. Wish we could go back to that time. Just 2 stipulations; take what I've learned and the rods/reels I have now with me...LOL
