GOLDEN EAGLE - TODAY'S CATCH!

10 Attachment(s)
We started off this morning with plenty of BLUES working on top and good bird life. We picked at a few 2 to 4 pound BLUES but they were extremely difficult to catch.

We finished up the day with SEA BASS action and also managed to pick away nicely at the LING.

Check out the pictures from today's trip and make your reservations now to join us for a fun-filled day of ocean fishing.

The GOLDEN EAGLE sails every day for STRIPERS & BLUES at 7:30 am from Belmar Marina in Belmar, NJ.

For more information visit us at

See you onboard.

Honest question for the Capt, or actually anyone that has an opinion.. I see more reports than ever these days of blues that are very hard to catch, very picky etc.. I wonder why this is?.. The last thing I would ever think of with Blues, is them being picky so often. I understand there are times when ANY species gets picky or spooky and won't hit, but past few years I have seen many reports similar to this one of blues being tough to catch.. In my day 2-4 pound Blues always seemed bound and determined to commit suicide on anything you had on a line.. any lure, any bait, dead, alive, decomposed,, didn't matter.. if they were around you caught them.... These days?- not so much... bob

NOT the Capt. but being on the water yesterday for Fluke and Triggers my guess as we passed some schools of blues and birds is that the schools are moving fast and not really concentrated from top to bottom so hard to stay on them for any boat let alone a party boat. Run and Gun / Get a couple each pass and then they are gone or somewhere else. Amount of triggers in NJ inshore grounds are plentiful and aggressive

Makes sense... I only fished on party boats for Blues a few times, usually when the boats was anchored and chumming.. Those were typically bigger blues in than the fast moving inshore fish.. The vast majority of my bluefishing was exactly as you described really. In my own boat, running to within casting range of diving birds, catch a few, birds disappear, and then you spot them again 1/2 mile up or down the beach, and you run to them again and start casting. Back then, most party boats didn;t run and gun.. They went further offshore and chummed keeping the fish closer to the boat, and were not getting mugged by 100 16 foot boats... I imagine things are just very different today.. I suppose each year I forget more of the things I did in my 50 or so years fishing at the Jersey shore.
