Opening Day Skunking…..
 

Figure I’d post up a personal report before the sponsors get rolling April 1st and clog up the board :p

Back of the Raritan. Dead sticked 2 rods, 1 with clam another with bloods and flundy hooks. Threw lures on a 3 rd while the baits soaked. All on the incoming after 9am. Zip. Water def cold but I don’t carry a thermo so couldn’t tell ya temp. Wind started honking by 11. Flounder bait picked clean constantly but never came tight in anything.

Took a ride further west before calling it quits and the poachers are setting up shop already for the season.

No bait to be seen. Felt good to just cast after this cold ass winter. Good luck this season boys.

First fishing report of the year! Nice! I bet it felt great to get out there and you also got the skunk out of the way for the year! :) Tight lines and have a great season!

Part of being the first out is the risk of skunked. Most want a surer thing. It's brave to go and report it. I respect that effort Capt.

I guess you now know what the phrase : "The Second Mouse Gets The Cheese" means? LOL

Been there myself many times crabbing bailing spider crabs in the Navesink in May. :))

Gave the flundies another shot back in Keyport. Zippo. Was hoping for a few bites as the water warmed up with the sun but nothing doing.

Cappy….never crabbed this early but very intrigued …….send me a PM on where ya trying if you want to. Gotta try it.

As the water gets closer to 50, they'll start coming out of the mud.
