2022 NJ Skillful Angler Recognition Awards

Seven of the fish that I caught last year won awards. Two were first place fish. Won a Specialist Angler Award for catching 6 award winning fish 🐟 of the same species. Got 62 awards since the program started. Pretty good for a 76 year old who only fishes from shore for a few hours in the evening at overcrowded, fished out public fishing areas in the most densely populated state of NJ.

Congratulations, something to be proud of! You certainly have a passion for fishing and put the time and effort in.

I stopped sending in applications after they were turned down 3 times for nonsense reasons. Sent in photos with tape measure , nope.

One year five of my applications were rejected because the tape measure was not clearly visible in the photos.

i originally had some denied because the ruler wasnt straight, fishing solo and using a loose tailor's tape is very hard to get right :P
and then tape measure i carried was pocket sized and the numbers were so small that it wasnt clearly readable.
Even with a big tape measure it can be hard to measure when solo. I think my last few i fortunately had a buddy and they took the picture as I held them perfectly align on the tape.

I dont mind the strictness but i would like the denied submissions to still get recognition, as well as show runner ups on the public results board.

Also some people just dont have a tape on them. That happened to me last year with the bigger walleye, my 2nd smaller one ended up on the leaderboard. Would prefer the big one be showcased somehow, picture was so much better too.

For big fish, the numbers on the tape measure are not readable in my cell phone photos.
