Rust on Rod Guides

I spray my rods and reels with fresh water after each use but noticed I was getting some rust on my Alconite guides and found a good solution...

Get some Bar Keepers Friend, mix in a small amount of water to make a paste and spread the paste all over the guides. Wait 5 mins rub paste off with a paper towel and rinse with water. Took the rust right off...

I then got some CLP which is a metal cleaner, lubricant and preservative for guns and coated the guides. While I was at it I also CLP'd the reel. It took off of all the bait crud, the blue crystals you you get on the chrome parts. It cleaned it up great, looks like new and I figured it offered some protection.

It was also suggested that some of the ceramic seal coatings for cars might help the guides from rusting so might give that a shot if the CLP doesn't hold up.

What are you all using on your rods and reels?

Always bring some Dawn dish soap with a soft sponge and leave it on the dock while out on the boat. When the charter returns and the fish cleaning is going on I clean the reels and rods. They always have hoses with fresh water avail.
One down fall you have to catch some fish LOL.

Try some polish LIQUID GLASS on the rods for the winter storage.

Wash with the carwash that has wax in it.

I just rinse rods/reels with warm water in shower. Reels @ full drag(all are lever) and just pour cups of water over reels, never use pressure, ie: dock or garden hose. Never had a problem with guides, ring or roller.

Used to do the shower thing but Wifey nixed it. She claims that they stink. I have put vasoline on all exposed screws after having problems with Diawa screws rusting after only a couple of trips.
