Sea bass
Plan on using Gulp when I go out for sea bass. Any idea on color and size ?

Re: Sea bass
Try to use scraps from fluke season as gulp for sea bass can get expensive quickly.

Re: Sea bass
Just use clams or squid.

Re: Sea bass
No gulp, unless you like wasting money. Bait or jigs is the way to go.

Re: Sea bass
I was out today checking a few spots they were all over the jigs. Used a teaser and landed double headers....easy would be limit...

I like using salted clams in the spring but once the water warms up a 6" Gulp Grub is the way to go. They are deadly on BIG Seabass. Good luck and tight lines!

Re: Sea bass
What size and color on the jigs ? Also what do you tip them with ?

Re: Sea bass
A27/47 tail or no tail, any jig thats heavy enough to reach bottom, simple deer hair teaser...I prefer pink/white..

You can use a plain hook with Gulp. or a hair, feather, or maribou teaser, or even a small FinS type tail.. If they are on jigs, they will hit any type of teaser, as well as the jig itself.. That being said, some days if you use jigs, you catch nothing.. I'll get arguments here with that opinion, but I have seen it many times.. they want meat, and simply won't touch a jig.. Usually when that happens the overall catch is way down and no one is doing great, no matter what you are using.. I typically have a bait rig rod and a jig rod ready to go.. I start with a jig, and if they are hitting, I stay with it. If they are not hitting a jig, I switch to bait .. pretty simple. Best bet is start jigging, and simply be ready to switch it out if they don't respond... I have seen a lot of guys jig all day and simply not get bit, while guys using bait are catching a few here and there. Its a LOT more fun catching them on jigs, thats for sure...bob |
