Massachusetts Cod Combat 9/20/21
 

What a trip with captain Jeff up in south yarmouth. I've never experienced codfishing like we had Monday. Drop & reel on jigs & teasers 10-15lb fish common. A bunch 15-20lb fish & yours truly landing his pb which was between 25-30 depending on the scale & how much i had to drink. I also landed a diablo cockolla. My partner Devon landed their 1st cod, haddock & pollock on this trip to add to the species book & also fought (with capt jeffs help) a terrifyingly large blue shark to the boat which was cut & released at the hook. Philthy Orr, Boomer Daly & My booboo Ragu all easily limited on cod as well as bonus haddock, Orr got his 1st ever monkfish & Daly got a cusk but almost got spooled by a dogfish which he says was a great white....... Brought home over 40lbs of cod easily as the food scale only goes to 20lbs & both bags won't read.

Rumor has it day 2 was even better unfortunately I had a meeting for del boca vista I couldn't miss 😡 I did include a pic of Philthy Orr with a jumbo whiting from day 2.

Was a hell of a way to start #mongernationweekinyarmouth our leader capt. Jerry & company had same fishing yesterday with the crew & el gato negro!

P.S.
I DON'T WANT TO HEAR HOW GREAT CODFISHING WAS 40 + YRS AGO AT THE KLONDIKE U OLD ANGLERS ARE VERY IRRITATING.

Only a handful of obvious ones. Once they hit the deep fryer they go away

Someone had told me cod was shut down for a few year up there last year if I remember correctly. I guess it’s obviously opened up again

It’s been reopened one fish over 21” for another 2 weeks. Great pix, very well done.
