Skinny water Fluke.
 

There's been talk of fishing for Fluke in skinny water. What depth are you talking about and what is your preferred way to catch them? thanks!

Back bays... 4 to 12 ft depending on where I'm fishing. I fish a single jig. Some bucktail. Some drag bait.

Light line... 10-15# braid to 12 to 15# fluoro leader. I try to fish the lightest jigs I can.

12 feet of water with 1 oz Bucktails and gulp shrimp. East side of the bay!!

10-12 feet of water (or less) , #10 braid, #15 leader, 3/8 or 1/2 ounce round head jighead with a 6” GULP Jerk Shad.

I was out in the Shrewsbury River the last 2 days in my yak drifting a 1 oz bucktail tipped with 4” Gulp mullet and a line with a live killie . Managed 4 keepers and 6 shorts. All but one (the biggest) took the killie.

6 to 10 feet depth on all of them.

It's seems like 1oz single jig w/o teasers is the way to go. Do you cast out and retrieve or just mostly drop straight down? Thanks

You cast in the direction of the drift. Slowly lifting it off the bottom with 6 inch to 1 1/2 foot lifts off of the bottom. Early in the season with the water temp being on the low side, many times the fish will not be aggresive, so do not feel that you have to work it like crazy. Many times the fluke will follow the bucktail and hit just as the bucktail turns at the boat. Color is entirely another story, which is dictated by the quality of the water or the bait that they are feeding on at the time. Hope this helps.

Anywhere 5-15ft, 3/16 - 1/4oz ball head can be deadly - 6" jerk shad - cast updrift and pop it back, give it a few bounces beyond the bow/stern, that switchup often triggers a strike from followers.

Gammy makes a 3/16 and 1/4oz round jig head with a 3/0 hook and a perfect double cone keeper. Small and tidy Krehs Loop knot to jig, 10-12lb floro leader, alberto knot to 8lb Jbraid, M-ML freshwater bass rod/2500 Stradic/Tatula size reel and you're in business.
