Andy thanks for posting. Great job by people who care enough to devote their time maintaining nature.

Sad people / businesses would throw tires in a river. Really is unconscionable to most. Andy a question for you. It's my understanding every tire has what's called a TIN on it "Tire Identification Number" which has the date of manufacture and the plant code. When these tires are removed, is it possible for law enforcement to track those codes and find out who the tires were ultimately sold to? Possibly track it back to a business or individual who is responsible and start handing out some large fines. Would be great to address the problem at the source and start punishing the people responsible.

Not sure about "TIN". When I was helping some of these tires were so old they just shredded when pulled from the mud. We found tires on rims with lug patterns from the 1940's. I was told some of these tires pulled were over 30 years old. Even when cleaning the Raritan and South Branch we saw very little "new" tires. Occasionally you came across some sporty tires that some teenager dumped because he didn't want to pay the $8.00 disposal fee.
I think most companies large and small are quite aware of the consequences of dumping and the fines they can bring now. Luke and I did continually find motorcycle tires being dumped by a small company near Queens Bridge in Bound Brook though.

Tough area to clean up. The garbage down there seems to multiply no matter what. Great effort in a really tough spot! Thanks to the crew for the continued hard work! :D

I live in Trenton, Wish I could say I was surprised.

Appreciate the cleanup, as I do tend to do some ultralight fishing in the canal in spots between Trenton/Ewing.

Keep up the good work!

I am sure they will, can't keep people locked up forever. It's been smaller groups because of you know, the flu. Hope they work on that lower South Branch again, I'd drive up for that !

I was confused because the D&R canal is entirely freshwater, owned and operated by the NJWSA. Ultimately, the water is treated and becomes potable.

The area of the clean-up was Duck Creek (tidal w/ the Del. River), accessed from the D&R Canal State Park trailhead off of Lamberton Rd., Trenton.

Historically, a big time dumping area. Good Job!
