splitrock ice report
3 Attachment(s)
I went to a place that i love to ice fish now and spent many hours at as a kid fishing the open water, the" ROCK" as we know it. I got there about 9:00am and walked out from the parking area by those plastic docks that the state put there and saw grey looking areas on the ice. I drilled a hole in one of them and found that the ice was only 5" thick, 4" of black and 1" of white snow ice and thought oh no this is not good. I went to the cove on the right by what we call level rock and drilled another hole and found the ice to be 11" there 7" black and 4" white snow ice so i stayed close to the shore and headed to my spot. I got to my spot out by the big island at 11:25am. I took my time getting there checking the ice as i went. drilled 9 holes and found the fish in the third one in 23 fow the fish were on the bottom as usual. started with the rippin rap and it was not long before i got hit by the biggest perch of the season a 13" fish. Moved two holes away from that one and it was game on, i got 5 in that hole and had to move one more time and got 2 more smaller perch that i let go then around 4:15pm the fish stopped hitting and i headed back to my truck. If anybody goes there be careful that ice is going to melt fast and the back is probably going to be the only safe ice after the warm weather and rain that we are going to get this weekend. I really love that place so peaceful to fish at during the ice season no googans all over the place. (sorry for the upside down perch shot i do not know why that pic came out like that)
