Wreck anchor

The rope on my wreck anchor ties to the bottom and I zip tie it to the top when anchoring before I drive it off. The rope is getting frayed from the wreck. I am thinking about attaching a piece of chain to the bottom in an attempt to protect the rope. However, I question if the chain will get hung up on the wreck and will be more of a problem then a help. Is replacing the eye splice just the price of doing business when wreck fishing.

Thank you for any advise.

Yep - You need at least a 10 foot shot of chain for any anchor. It does 2 things...The weight of the chain helps the anchor plow and grab and the chain won't wear and fray if you're anchoring in the stick stuff.

Use a 4' piece of cheap garden hose to help prevent chafing
If the anchor gets hung you can make a few circles and cut through the hose and rope and get 90% of your rope back

Thank you for your comments. I tried the garden hose and it worked well. Chuck its one of your anchor and rope that I picked up from you about 5 years ago
