A Toadfish?

Re: What is this fish?
Tough to tell exactly from that angle because the body shapes are similar but its either an Oyster Toadfish or Stargazer.. Either one will hit a jig, but toads are more commonly caught in tidal salt water rivers and bays, while most Stargazers I have seen were caught right close to the ocean shoreline from the beach or jetties,, Never saw a Stargazer in the rivers or bay personally.. Millions of toads in the bays/rivers/canals/tidal creeks etc. Both are friggin ugly as sin with the Stargazer being even more hideous than the toads.... bob

Yup very ugly. Caught them many it the river inlets.:eek::eek:Some people call them Osyter Crackers also. Just keep your finger out of its mouth or it will be a Digit Cracker.

The ones I've seen in the Barnegat have big teeth too that stick out like teddy Roosevelt. :) Like they are always smiling.

As a youngster, caught many of them--what we called Oyster crackers---in the back bays of AC. Big front teeth, like a human!

Stargazers can give you an electric shock. Like an eel
