Pike, Rainbows and Browns (June 8-9, 2019)

Mixed it up a little bit last weekend. Hit a spot for trout, and ended up with a few browns and a rainbow. Then, I went to check out some spots on the Passaic for pike. Not surprisingly, most spots were still flooded but I managed to do pretty well with a bunch of decent pike and a big pickerel.

good catchin'! What's a good # test leader to use for them? Are wire leaders worthwhile?

You can use wire, though they can be wire shy in certain spots. Plus, wire only usually lasts one fish. I use 40 to 60lb fluoro and it's been working great.

i've had them chop 50-60 fluoro like scissors too! it's rare but it's happened. #100 mono is what i've been using on musky, it's thick as hell but at least clear and it'll last many catches before their teeth start getting through it.

Splendid trout and mean looking pike.

What I like about that river is that despite it flooding easily the flooded banks stay firm and not too muddy. I guess we arent too far away from low-water season.

Probably. But I wear a cheap pair of waders that covers me up to the top of my chest to keep them off me. It's hot in the summer, but better than ticks!
