Saw something online about harmful algae. They have had all parking and access points on Van Sickells rd blocked since Monday. I drive past everyday on way to work.

Where did you see the information online? I went searching for it and couldn't find anything. I feel like if the state had to close it for a harmful algae bloom information should be readily available! It would be a bummer if someone drove a long way to fish there only to find it closed.

Harmful algae bloom,.....avoid contact with the water, therefore swimming area is closed. Boat ramp / cartop kayak launch open to anglers.

I asked them why they closed the access areas at the mouth of Spruce Run Creek & Black Brook Cove. Their answer: "Because people, illegally, swim there."

I told them that illegal swimming at those 2 areas was a Parks & Forest's enforcement issue. That those 2 areas should still be open to anglers, as WMA lakes that have suffered the same harmful algae in the past, have remained open to fishing.

I imagine, less headache for them, if they just close those 2 areas off to all.

Yea, actually drove by this morning on my way out to work and all shoreline acces was closed from Charlestown road to Rt 31. Thought maybe a crazy weekend shut it down, guess not!

Any update on this situation? I have Monday off and was planning to take the boat out on spruce run but wondering if I should call an audible and head somewhere else. Do these algae blooms tend to impact fishing? I already get skunked enough as it is a SR so if the fishing is going to be even tougher than normal I think I will just head to the south branch for smallies.
