Lew’s?

My son is eyeing a lew’s Mach 2 baitcaster combo that goes on sale tomorrow. It would be $125. I’ve never heard of the brand until recently. Trying to steer him towards a Daiwa fuego and find a matching Rod, but he’s attracted to the colors offered. Anyone have experience with lew’s gear? Thanks

Dunno about baitcasters but for freshwater all I have is Daiwa.

I've heard mixed reviews about Lew's products. Some of it appears good, but some of it is cheap crap they just slap their logo on. I would think for a $125 price tag it had better be decent.

Read some reviews, do your research, but in the end let your son make the final decision.

I have 4 Lews spinning combos, I like them very much.
The St Croix website has a baitcaster or spinning combo on sale tomorrow with a daiwa reel. I am going to purchase that. it’s a nice price.

I had a Lews baitcaster that cost me about $100 and it barely lasted a month. I switched to Shimano baitcasters after that and have found them much more reliable. Some of the higher end Abu Garcia baitcasters are also not bad.

I have 2 lews baitcasters and love them. They are the higher end super duty reels I got dirt cheap. Retail $179.

All the manufacturers are trying to be at every price point. I had some cheaper shimano spinning reels that were total garbage but I wouldn't say all shimanos are garbage. You get what u pay for.

Like lard said do ur research. If it is a best seller on tackle warehouse you can be sure it is good stuff.

Thanks for the responses. Stopped at the tackle store we frequent in Bergen county on Friday. They were running 20% off if you bought rod and reel. My son wound up choosing the quantum accurist pt bait caster, paired with a Shimano scimitar 6’6” rod. We now have 3 of the scimitar rods, they have them for a really good price and we like them. He’s going to give it a few casts tomorrow if weather allows.

seems to me the price point comment by squatch is pretty spot on... many companies make great lower price range stuff but their more expensive stuff doesn't live up the the cost while some companies that make great pricier stuff make garbage for lower end price range gear.

If i want lower price range stuff that is still good, i usually go pflueger. for higher end stuff i go with shimano or daiwa.

I have four Lew's baitcasters. Two Tournament MBs, the Super Duty and their budget priced Speed Spool. I really like them and they have become my go to reels. With the cheap one you get what you pay for but the MBs and Super Duty provided really good bang for the buck. The Super Duty is every bit as good as my Curado and was $75 less.
