I have an opinion but didn’t want to come off as a smart ass........5 gallon bucket tied off midship cleat. And yes, I do that.

buy a giant custom one. The small ones don't really slow the boat down enough .

G2 ,outfitters makes three big drift socks
84"
120"
148"

You would use an 84"
Have used his socks for over 10 years and they still look brand new.
Just rinse with fresh water after use.

I believe you can get away with a 36”- 48” size , on the Whaler , there’s very little free board not much to catch wind , especially if your fishing back bays !
The 5 Gal pail works for smaller boats , just make sure the handles are mounted solidly to bucket or rim tie it !

I have a no name brand one for my 24’ Scout. Maybe 4 foot wide. Works great for me in the ocean but I think it is a little too big for the river with all the sea weed and debris. If I want to slow myself down in the river, especially near the channel. I will use a 5 gallon bucket and just keep it easily reachable if I need to move in a hurry.
