Lehigh River Help

So I have decided to check out the Lehigh River tomorrow, probably the gorge area near Jim Thorpe. Target willl be trout and smallmouth. If anyone has fished this area any tips would be greatly appreciated. Also was considering bringing the kayak but not sure about water levels. If anyone is aware of somewhere online that I can check the flow rate/height of the river please let me know. Don’t want to haul the kayak all the way out there if I won’t be using it.

The usgs.gov streamflow tables for PA has the Lehigh cage height and CFS. Or google the Lehigh river, they have a river association that monitors streamflows. I'd imagine it's probably on the high side.

Let me know how you do. Did a float trip in the spring last year with Nick Raftas from Wild East Outdoors and it was good for trout, tried to do a float trip last fall and it never stopped raining. Trying to float the gorge this year and it never stops raining. The water releases from the dam is all over the place, it's either at 9000 CFS or 1000 CFS !!
Access looks tough, there is a trail, plan on walking miles, the banks are steep.

Well no fishing for me today boys, I was woken early on what was to be my day of fishing by a near hysterical wife whose water had broke and was in active labor and a 4 year old son who looked like a deer caught in the headlights. fishing was instantly the farthest thing from my mind. Took charge, dropped son off at YMCA daycare then straight to overlook hospital. Violet Elizabeth was born at 11:12 am, 2 weeks early but a healthy 7 lb 6 Oz, ten fingers ten toes and The most perfect thing I have ever seen.

Congrats logs and family!!!

The wife and I are in countdown mode at the moment ourselves. I'd actually say your pretty brave to plan a trip like that so close but I guess you weren't actually expecting that day. :D I've been trying to keep all my outings close to home recently, just in case. Still, trying to get in as much as I can now cause I here having a baby can really cut into your fishing time!! :D
