Fish Finder Mounting Options

Just picked up a HB Helix 7. Unit looks awesome and can't wait to get it on the water but I am annoyed that the stock gimbal bracket doesn't allow the unit to be swiveled. The HB quick connect mounts were awesome.

I have been researching the swivel mounting options and have narrowed it down to:

Ram Ball Mount - Ball Mount Options

Johnny Ray Mount - Swivel Mount

I like the idea of the infinite adjustability of the Ram Ball Mount but am concerned that it might fail in rough water.
Has anyone else used the 1.5" Ram Ball Mounts on a similar application?
How easy is it to remove the ff from the mount for storage?

Johnny Ray mounts have rave reviews and seem bullet proof due to simple design.

Thanks in advance.

I have personally used the Johnny Ray mounts and never had an issue not matter how bad it pounded.

Have used Johnny rAy mounts on 4 different boats over last 25 years from aluminum to 26 center.i am going to mount new 9 inch lowrance on ram mount 1/1/2 inch ball so I can swing it in or out a little .have used smaller ram mount on boat with no problems .hardware may rust on ram stuff.only issue with Ray mount is swivels only.

Re: Fish Finder Mounting Options

I'm using a pair of the rams on my 898SI. I don't know the size off hand, I'm guessing the small one is an inch, and the big one is around 2". I have them because I was in west marine & needed something that day, and it was all they had that would let me elevate the device. My console is small, and I needed to have it elevated to save space so the radio would fit underneath. It's been trouble free for 4 years I think, and it's had some decent poundings. 2 is probably overkill, but at the time it seemed like a good idea:o

you want to use Ram mounts, the johnnyray mounts are very limited in their ability to get a good angle. If you need any help w which mounts and where to locate reach out to me, I do electronics installs and can tell you what mounts and what size/location

I have a Helix 5 and have been considering the Ram mount for mine as well. Post pics with whichever you purchase.
